DENMARK OVERVIEW

The town of Denmark is located 414 Kilometers South of Perth, 53 Kilometers West of Albany and 50 Kilometers to the South of Mount Barker.

Denmark was named after Naval Surgeon Dr Alexander Denmark, a friend of Thomas Wilson the first European to explore the area.

The town now with a population of 4,300 started life in 1895 as a timber town, as the years past, the town went through many phases, the worst being the depression which forced many families to leave their land and the area. At the end of Word War 11 dairy farming which had been established in the area gave way to beef cattle.

Today tourism, horticulture and wine have become major industries in the area.

It is easy to see why these industries have become so established; there is nothing more enjoyable than driving along the many picturesque tourist routes visiting the many wineries and sampling the deliciously fresh and tantalizing food which is available, the variety has to be seen to be believed.

Denmark has been blessed with some of nature’s best, the town which nestles on the banks of the Denmark River has lost none of its old world charm and the people are amongst the friendliest you will meet any where.

The area is surrounded by forest of towering Karri Trees that sweep down to meet the Southern Ocean, and is commonly referred to as the area “where the forest meets the sea”.

The area has an amazing coast line and many beaches which are nothing short of spectacular.

There is something for everyone, from bush walking through the lush forests, fishing, picnicking in some of the most beautiful spots you will find any where, to visiting the many wineries and restaurants, but please drink Responsibility and always nominate a skipper.

Denmark is a must for anyone visiting the Great Southern once visited we know you will return.
